Blue Heron Skilled Nursing brings high quality, in-home nurse services to the client's home. We do not provide caregiver or homemaker services nor transportation. We gladly collaborate with independent provider caregivers or local caregiver agencies. Here's a small sampling of what we offer our clients. All situations are unique. Registered Nurse to Caregiver Delegation
As more people choose to age in place, more complex medical tasks now happen in the home. A Registered Nurse can delegate tasks such as medication and insulin administration, non-sterile wound care, and ostomy care to a caregiver that has had the proper training and certification. Blue Heron Skilled Nursing enjoys this collaborative process with caregivers and knows first hand that delegation helps keep people in their own homes. We set this up in a client's home and provide ongoing supervision. We are contracted with the State of Washington to provide this service to people receiving certain state health benefits.
Medication Management
Managing prescriptions prescribed by multiple providers safely, watching for side effects, monitoring efficacy, refilling medications and setting up safe medication dispenser systems can be a major barrier for those trying to age in place. Sometimes memory changes or limited dexterity or vision makes these tasks unsafe. Agency-provided caregivers are not allowed to handle, set up or administer medications. Blue Heron Skilled Nursing will eliminate this worry for you.
Care Management
Managing one's healthcare and navigating the healthcare system can be confusing and stressful. Blue Heron Skilled Nursing provides care management which can include; scheduling and attending medical appointments, communicating client needs with providers, ordering medical supplies, providing documentation to long term care insurance agencies, and connecting clients to local resources. Whether family lives far away or close by, having a registered nurse handle these tasks can be a relief.

Caregivers benefit from the support of a registered nurse in the home to call in times of need. Blue Heron Skilled Nursing works with clients that have independently hired caregivers and those that work for local caregiver agencies by developing individualized plans of care or by being a liaison with local agencies for their plans of care.
In-Home Medical Procedures
Sometimes Clients need urinary catheters changed, wound care done, ports flushed, intra-muscular injections or lab draws and it is just too difficult to leave the home to do these tasks in a medical office. Blue Heron Skilled Nursing will perform such tasks, and more, under a doctor's order, in the comfort of your own home.
Assessments
Blue Heron Skilled Nursing's assessments, plus a custom crafted plan of care, are tools that give family and caregivers organized guidance to best care for a person in their home.

Comprehensive, head to toe assessments are sometimes required to move into a nursing home or an adult family home. Some long-term care insurance companies require assessments. We do those and will work with Adult Family Homes needing assessments.
